Clearing the home of someone who has died is one of the hardest practical jobs a family faces, and it often has to be done from a distance and to a deadline set by a solicitor or a landlord. We have done a great many of these clearances and we approach every one the same way: slowly enough to be careful, quickly enough to take the weight off you.
Before anything leaves the property we go through it with you or your representative, setting aside photographs, documents, jewellery, keepsakes and anything else the family wants. If you cannot be there, we do this by photograph and phone. Items of value are identified and can be sold through appropriate channels on the estate's behalf, with the proceeds offset against the cost or returned to the estate. Usable furniture and goods go to local charities. Paperwork is provided for the executor.
